Former striker joins the Pitmen

Former Solihull Moors striker Luke Rodgers has signed for Northern Premier League side Hednesford Town ahead of the 2017/18 season.

Rodgers reunites with Pitmen boss Neil Tooth, who managed the forward at Sutton Coldfield Town.

The 35-year-old striker had joined Solihull Moors in December of last year, and was infamously sent-off on his debut for the club, receiving an 86th minute red card in the Moors’ FA Trophy defeat at home to Matlock Town.

Rodgers made a further 4 appearances for the club, all of which were from the bench. He did manage to score one goal, this came in Solihull Moors’ 2-1 defeat against Walsall in the Birmingham Senior Cup quarter-final at the Automated Technology Group Stadium.

The former New York Red Bulls man was then loaned out to Redditch United, before departing for Northern Premier League high-flyers Stourbridge for the remainder of the season.

Moors boss Liam McDonald had stated in a previous interview that although Rodgers had departed he could still have a future at the club, but it now appears the player’s time at Solihull is officially over.


In other news, it has been confirmed today that defender Nathaniel Kelly has signed a deal with Sutton Coldfield Town ahead of the new season.

The former Birmingham City youngster had spent two seasons with the Moors after his release from St Andrews, but only made seven appearances, six of which came in the Birmingham Senior Cup.

Kelly had spent the majority of last season out on loan, spending the first half of the season with Redditch United, before completing the campaign with Sutton Coldfield and the defender has now made the move to the Royals permanently.
