Solihull Moors manager Liam McDonald has said his side have completely refocussed ahead of tomorrow night’s clash against Leyton Orient and says there is no reason why his players should not expect a good result against the National League giants.

Speaking in his column on the club’s official website, McDonald discussed the disappointment of the opening day postponement against Chester and also spoke on the part the fans can play in helping his side against the Orient tomorrow night.

Here’s what the Moors boss had to say:

‘It has been one hell of a weekend! In all my days as a player and a manager I have never known a game to be called off before the opening Saturday of a new season and so late that we could not re-arrange it at Chester’s ground.

We were all gutted – we had a terrific pre season and mentally / physically we were ready to play and looking forward to it. We had prepared thoroughly for playing Chester and all of a sudden, not only did we have the disappointment of no game, but we had to focus on what to expect at Leyton Orient. We were literally stopped in our tracks!

After such a good pre season all the new players have stepped up to our philosophy as a team; we have one hand tied behind our backs anyway against the full time teams – we certainly did not need to see this, of all matches, postponed

I have been honest with the players – they and you fans deserve that because without you there is no club. I have spoken to the Chester Manager, Jon McCarthy- he is bitterly disappointed too but he knows in Football these things happen. My thoughts were also with the travelling Chester fans.

But… We are strong squad and we did the best possible thing in the circumstances when together we watched the ‘O’s’ going down away at Sutton United – I have to say that completely refocussed us all.

I thought the Orient played well at Sutton but you only have to cast your mind back to last season’s FA Cup to realise that the home team is capable of causing upsets against any one and so it proved to be.

It will make the Orient all the more hungry to get points on the board and we will have to be very focused when we arrive in Leyton. It is a big stadium and there will be 5/6,000 home fans looking to put last season and Sutton United far behind them

That is where our supporters come in – I realise only a small proportion of our fans can get to the match but I need them to make themselves heard right from the start; you carried us through some difficult matches last season and I need you to start doing that again from the outset.

I am really looking forward to the game. We will leave in good time to acclimatise ourselves to the surroundings at the Matchroom stadium. Dover proved away at Hartlepool that there are no certainties in this league and together there is no reason why we should not expect a good result on Tuesday.’

In other news, Solihull Moors midfielder Callum Coyle has joined Sutton Coldfield Town on loan. Coyle was used as a substitute in the Royals’ 1-1 friendly draw at Stratford Town on Saturday.
