Moors Academy claimed a cup final victory on Tuesday night, defeating Romulus 5-0 to win the Joel Richards Memorial Cup at Boldmere St. Michaels.

Goals from Josh Parsons, Kyle Mullally (3) and Romario Martin sealed the win for the Moors’ youngsters, as the Under-18s impressed under the watchful eye of first-team boss Liam McDonald.

The Moors started the game on the front foot and had the lead within 10 minutes. Tyrese Shade burst down the right, his low cross went all the way across the box to Parsons, whose first time right-foot effort slipped through the keeper’s hands.

Romulus started to get into the game a little more after the opener, but it was the Moors Academy who managed to get the next goal. The Roms’ keeper attempted to clear, his kick went straight to Kyle Mullally outside of the box, who superbly smashed the ball into the top corner of the net. 2-0 was the score at half-time.

As Romulus’ Under-18s look to push for a comeback early in the second-half, the Moors had their third in the 58th minute. The previous goal scorers combined, with Parsons sending a deep cross into the box from the left, finding the head of Mullally, who superbly looped his header into the net from 15 yards out.

The goal seemed to really deflate Romulus, as the Moors looked to increase their lead, and they did in the 81st minute. Mullally this time became the provider, sending the ball over the top of the opposition defence, leading to Romario Martin bursting past two players to reach the ball and drill the ball past the keeper.

It took just two minutes for Academy boys to get their fifth, with Mullally capping off a superb display with his hat-trick goal. A one-two with midfielder Dylon Bennett set the attacker one-on-one with the keeper, Mullally kept his nerve and slotted the ball home cooly. 5-0, job done.

A quality performance by the Moors Academy, to cap off an impressive cup campaign that has seen them score 23 goals and concede only two. You can certainly see why Liam McDonald is keen to bring these young players through into the first-team.

Moors Academy Starting XI: Ntiri; Hansard (Clarke), Willock, Taylor, Hirst; Shade (Nhundu), Bennett, Andrews, Parsons (Medford); Mullally; Martin.
