Solihull Moors boss Mark Yates is the current favourite for the vacant Macclesfield Town managerial post, according to SkyBet.

Yates is now tipped with odds as low as 1/12 to take the reigns at Moss Rose, after their previous manager, John Askey, left the club to become manager at League One club Shrewsbury Town.

Yates took over at Solihull Moors last November, with the club firmly rooted at the bottom of the National League table, having only won three matches at that point of the season.

The 48-year-old, however, would eventually mastermind the Moors’ ‘great escape’, with his side picking up 43 points in their remaining 27 league games, finishing in 18th place, six points above the relegation zone.

Yates’ part in the Moors’ incredible turnaround of last season has clearly not gone unnoticed, with Macclesfield Town now seemingly taking an interest in the former Cheltenham Town boss, as they prepare for their return to the Football League, after gaining promotion to League Two by winning the National League last campaign.

Yates had also been linked with the Kidderminster Harriers managerial post earlier in the summer, after their boss John Eustace departed, but former Coventry City assistant manager Neil MacFarlane eventually took up that position.

If Yates was to depart, it would see Solihull Moors looking for their fourth permanent manager in nine months, after Liam McDonald was sacked by the club last October, before his replacement, Richard Money, departed the club less than a month later, with Mark Yates taking up the role after then.
