Solihull Moors have completed the signing of midfielder Jack Edwards from Leamington.

Edwards joins the Moors after three years at Leamington in which he amassed 149 appearances for the Warwickshire-based club.

The 27-year-old spent the early part of his career playing in the Midland Football Leagues, first playing for Studley before spending a season with Coventry Sphinx.

The midfielder then made the jump to Step 3, moving to Barwell, where he spent two seasons with the Canaries, before joining Leamington at the beginning of the 2014/15 season.

Edwards made 34 league appearances in an impressive first season with the Brakes, but unfortunately they were relegated from the National League North.

He continued his impressive form in the Southern Premier League and last season helped Leamington to a second place finish, with the side eventually coming out as play-off winners, defeating Hitchin Town to earn promotion back to the National League North.

Edwards also helped Leamington to Birmingham Senior Cup triumph at the end of the last campaign, scoring a penalty in their shoot-out win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

Described as a combative midfielder, Edwards is comfortable playing in defensive positions or in midfield. He has also been described as athletic and tidy on the ball.

He has also scored a few wonder strikes in his time with the Brakes (his goal against Cinderford Town can be found here), which has earned him the nickname as the ‘Non-League Beckham’.

Solihull Moors boss Liam McDonald told the club’s official website of his delight at the signing of Edwards:

“I’m happy to get Jack across to Solihull Moors. He was a target as soon as the season finished, he’s been a standout performer over the last couple of season’s and will be an asset to the squad.

“The fact he is versatile helps and he’s outstanding in the air and it’s something we perhaps struggled with at times last season.”
