Solihull Moors annual awards night was held last Friday night at the Village Hotel. The event was attended by some 150 supporters, players and directors.

Moors were celebrating their achievement of staying in the Vanarama National League at the first attempt and highlights of some of the momentous action were shown on video throughout proceedings.

Moors eventually finished the Vanarama National League in 16th place with 55 points with ex-Football League outfits Torquay United and Chester below them and York City who came down only 12 months ago from League Two of the Football league relegated again.

Moment of the Season:

The away win at Macclesfield Town was nominated by manager Liam McDonald as the pivotal point where Moors poor run of results finished and a steady rise up the league began.

It was then that the defeat at Tranmere was laid to rest

Top Goal Scorer:

Harry White (no longer with the club). Harry notched 12 goals during the season.

Supporter’s Player of the Season:

Liam Daly received the award from SMSA’s Jono Hall. Liam was an ever present rock on the centre of defence until his injury towards the end of the season and took over as Skipper during the campaign.

Clubman of the Year:

It was a surprised Michael Mulryan aka ‘Statto’ who received the ultimate accolade for all the hours of dedicated voluntary work throughout the history of Solihull Moors and Moor Green before that. There is hardly a job within the club that Statto has not done although to the current fans he is one of the faces in the match day office, a cheer leader on the terraces, shunning even a pullover except in sub zero temperatures, the 50:50 draw man and for many years the Chairman of the SMSA until handing over to Jono Hall.

Goal of the Season:

Moors have has their share of spectacular goals this season but Omari Sterling-James has been involved in a fair number of them. None of the travelling Army will forget when on nineteen minutes of the away game at Dagenham, Omari collected Connor Franklin’s pass some 25 yards out and unleashed a bullet of a shot into the top left hand corner of the net. Director Simon Hawker presented the award

Manager’s Player of the Season:

Liam McDonald presented this trophy to Kristian Green who he had signed from Stourbridge at the half way stage of the season and was an ever present in the side from that moment on. Liam explained that Kristian had the ability to play anywhere in both defence and midfield and had been required to do just for Moors.

Player’s Player of the Season:

Captain Liam Daly presented the award to battling midfielder Jack Byrne one of the few remaining players from last years promotion team and a ‘son’ of Solihull Borough who played in their last ever game in 2007 before the merger.
