Macclesfield Town have confirmed the appointment of Solihull Moors boss Mark Yates as their new first-team manager.

Yates signs a three-year deal with the Silkmen, leaving the Moors after being with the club since last November, when the club were firmly rooted at the bottom of the National League table, having only won three matches at that point of the season.

The 48-year-old would eventually mastermind the Moors’ ‘great escape’, with his side picking up 43 points in their remaining 27 league games, finishing in 18th place, six points above the relegation zone.

Yates now joins up with Macclesfield Town, who gained promotion to League Two by winning the National League last campaign.

Yates told Macclesfield’s official website: “I’m really pleased. It’s happened really quickly but I’m joining a club with momentum and a club that are on the up.

“Everybody at the Football Club did a fantastic job last season and I just want to carry that on in a very competitive League Two.

“I’m looking forward to working with the players that are here but also bringing in some new faces too. I’ve been very impressed with the Chairman and I’m sure we’re going to work tirelessly to put together a squad that will do well next season.”

Solihull Moors have also made a statement regarding Yates’ departure, putting on record their appreciation for everything Mark Yates brought to the club and also wishing him every success on his return to the Football League.

The club have also confirmed that ‘discussions on his replacement are ongoing and a further announcement is imminent.’
