Solihull Moors captain Darren Carter was delighted with the team’s performance against Chester and felt the supporters were owed a positive performance after recent poor results.

Speaking in his ‘Captain’s Log’ on the club’s official website, the 33-year-old spoke on recent results and performances against Torquay, Tranmere and Aldershot. Carter also discussed the return of Liam Daly and answered the long running question around pre-match dressing room music.

Here’s what the skipper had to say…

‘It has been a hectic last few weeks for us with games coming thick and fast but we understand that this is the nature of the beast in the National League.

‘The Bank Holiday started with a bang, and a battling performance to earn our first win on a sweltering day down on the English Riviera against Torquay. Vaughny quite rightly took the plaudits, not only for his spectacular goal but his performance between the sticks for us. I’ve never been involved in a game when a keeper has scored but it was enjoyable to witness it first hand and especially being on the positive end of it.

‘After disappointing results and performances against Tranmere and Aldershot we corrected it in fine style with a strong team win against Chester on Tuesday night. Both teams have started the campaign slowly but we felt we owed not only ourselves but the supporters a performance and I felt we dominated for large periods with Dapo in fine form to fire us to victory.

‘We understand we are one of the few part time clubs in the division and a lot of our lads have jobs away from the Moors so we are up against it in terms of training time and preparation together. The effort and commitment shown so far from the boys has been first class and these disadvantages will only fuel us to go out and achieve what many think we can’t. Our mentally will always be, we stick together no matter what challenges we face.

‘It was obviously a huge lift for everyone having Dales return to the club last week. He is a popular figure around the place and a leader. Myself and Dales along with Paul Green will shoulder the responsibility of using our experience to lead the lads the best way we can.

‘I’ve been asked about what pre-match music we play in the dressing room. It does play a big part in getting you hyped up for the game. The gaffer likes to think he has a decent play list but the majority of the time Kalern Thomas takes control with some Hip Hop/House music. I’m a lover of all music genres so I rarely have complaints but I have noticed a few who fancy getting their tunes played out over the changing room speaker so I’ll keep you updated if things change!

‘Once again I thank you for your fantastic support, the long journeys to Torquay and Aldershot do not get overlooked by the lads. We appreciate it greatly! We move forward through the month of September with confidence and optimism and embrace the next block of games.’
