Defender Liam Daly has stated that he loving life at Solihull Moors currently and is delighted that the club are surprising all the early season critics, who had tipped the Moors to be relegated from the top tier of non-league football.

Solihull Moors currently sit 15th place in the National League, with a seven point cushion over the relegation zone and are only three points from the top-half of the table. The Moors have been somewhat of a surprise package this season and Daly feels the team are now in position where they can go into every game believing they can win.

‘At the start of the season, we were written off,’ the 29-year-old told the Birmingham Mail.

‘People were saying, we wouldn’t stay in the league; we hadn’t got the players, we hadn’t got the budget, whatever the reason was. But I think people have been shocked by how well we have done.

‘At the start of the season we went to places where you could see the difference in level from being in the Conference North but now I genuinely don’t turn up at games and think we are going to struggle. On our day we can beat anybody in this league.’

Despite the defender’s confidence, Daly does remain realistic with his expectations. While he is looking for the team to kick on again next season, he acknowledges the club need to take things step-by-step at this level.

‘Lincoln are the best team in the league and don’t get me wrong they deserved to beat us a few weeks ago but we more than held our own against them. Next year we have got to kick on again.

‘I’m not saying we are going to be going for the play-offs. That’s silly. We’ve got to take things step by step and keep building.

‘It’s about staying at this level, increasing the crowds, growing as a club. It’s been a really enjoyable season, and we want more of it.’

The former Redditch United and Leamington man is happy that the Moors have reached the 45 point and with 10 games left of the season, he is looking for the team to push beyond the 50 point mark.

‘Over the years, getting to 45 points is usually good enough to keep you in this league.

‘We’ve got to 45 with ten games to go but now the next aim is to get to 50 points.

‘We’ve got a great group of lads. In the dressing room, we are a really close bunch and we showed that last week,’ added Daly.

‘Coming from 3-0 down to get a point showed we’ve got a lot of character.’

The big number four also discussed his own personal journey during his career, with this current spell being his second at the club, having played for the Moors during the 2008/09 season under the late Bob Faulkner.

Daly is enjoying his current spell at the Moors and is loving the challenge of playing National League football, the highest level the defender has played at.

‘This is my second spell here. I was only young first-time round and I didn’t take my football as seriously as I should have. I just wish I could roll back the years.

‘This is the highest level I’ve ever played but I think it suits me. The football is more direct, usually there is a big lad upfront and that`s how I like to play. I like to battle with a centre-forward.’

Daly will now be hoping Solihull Moors can pick up a valuable three points away at North Ferriby United this weekend and put the team another huge step closer to the magic 50 point mark.
