New Solihull Moors striker Jermaine Hylton has stated that he always knew he would work with Liam McDonald again and feels it has been easy to settle in at the club after his summer move from Swindon Town.

Hylton played under McDonald previously at Redditch United, before his good form for the Reds earned him a move to the Football League with Swindon.

The 24-year-old has now reunited with his former boss at the Moors and feels seeing some familiar faces at Damson Park has made settling in the club much easier.

‘I think I’ve settled in quite well but it was a lot easier because I knew all of the staff from before, a few players like Sim (Simeon Maye), George Carline so it wasn’t so much like I was going into a new place and it was more like going back to an old place,’ Hylton told the club’s official website.

‘I did think I would play for Liam again at some point, probably not so soon but that was the main thing that brought me to the club to be honest. I really wanted to play under Liam again.’

Hylton has impressed for the Moors during the club’s pre-season campaign, scoring four goals in five starts. He hopes to take this form into the new season, but while the Birmingham-born forward wouldn’t give too much away about his personal targets, he hopes he can help his new side push on to a strong position in the National League this season.

‘I haven’t just came to play some games and get by. I want to help push the team on and do something that nobody expects us to do.

‘I have set myself some targets but I’ll keep them a bit closer to my chest for the time being! I don’t believe we should just be looking to survive. We have a very good team that I think is going to exceed expectations for sure but we will just have to see how it goes.’

Having spent two years in the Football League with Swindon, experiencing both the highs and the lows that come with that level of football, Hylton believes that experience can be of benefit to the Moors this season.

He continued: ‘Having been in a relegation battle previously I know what it’s like when things aren’t going your way. I do think that my experience (in the Football League) can help with this team.

‘Sometimes it’s just a case of digging deep and everyone pulling together so I definitely think my experience can be beneficial.

‘Liam has made some very good signings and it’s almost a completely new team. We’ve been doing well in pre-season and we`re feeling confident that we can push on when the season starts against Chester on Saturday.’

Despite the huge amount of change Liam McDonald has made to the playing squad this season, Hylton believes McDonald’s methods have been getting over to the players and the striker is looking forward to getting started against Chester on Saturday.

‘I believe Liam’s methods are sinking into the players. When you have a brand new team, these things take time and you’ve got to learn the new systems. You’ve got to figure out each other as players but it’s coming along nicely.

‘I’m really excited. In my last couple of years at Swindon I’ve struggled to get the game time I would’ve liked and anybody who’s played football has had those cold away days where you’re just sitting on the bench watching- it`s difficult,’ Hylton added.

‘Now I’m just really excited to get playing again, scoring goals and do what I love.’
