Solihull Moors manager Liam McDonald has spoken about the circumstances behind defender Liam Daly’s departure to National League North side Kidderminster and has admitted that contract offered by the Harriers was too lucrative for the 29-year-old to turn down and worked out to double to what he was on at the Moors.

Daly joined Kidderminster last Friday in a move that caused much surprise and uproar amongst the Moors supporters, as the player had only signed a new deal with Solihull in May and was also confirmed as club captain ahead of the new season.

But McDonald has since looked to clarify the circumstances behind Daly’s departure and has also said that he is currently in talks with a potential replacement who has previous Premier League experience.

‘I thought Liam would be an integral part of our team for some years to come,’ the Moors boss told the Solihull Observer.

‘However, he is 29-years-old and the offer doubled what was already a good salary at Solihull Moors, on top of which he will also receive match by match bonuses depending on results.

‘It is also a two-year contract and Liam has to consider what is best for his young family.

‘It will elevate Liam’s income to a level well above that which most players in the National League are paid.’
