Solihull Moors boss Liam McDonald has admitted that he couldn’t resist celebrating his side’s 1-0 win over Bromley last weekend.

The win put his side up to 14th in the National League, with the Moors sitting 10 points above the relegation zone with 13 games remaining.

The 31-year-old manager was very pleased with the win and gave credit to both his players and the fans for the victory.

‘Few words were needed from me during the after match pitch warm down but even I could not resist a small celebration with the lads,’ McDonald told the Solihull Observer.

‘This was always going to be a hard match and the need to get in front and take our chances was paramount.

‘The squad is young and we are all still learning but we are going in the right direction. Harry White works so hard up front but now he is surrounded by four very fast midfielders in the shape of Dapo, Regan, George and Shep. Tactically they are very fluent but structured.

‘The travelling fans did us proud – they knew there was 100 per cent commitment by the squad and it showed. Both the players and the supporters are on this journey together and it is a good feeling.’

The Moors boss also discussed Daniel Udoh’s debut red card, with McDonald feeling that both yellow cards received by the striker were harsh and was sad to see his new loan signing sent-off.

‘I do not think for one moment that Daniel Udoh dived to get a penalty,’ McDonald said about the 20-year-old, on loan from Crewe Alexandra.

‘He was round the keeper when the incident happened and was likely to be clattered himself.

‘These things happen in football. I was particularly sad for our newest loanee as I thought the first yellow card was unpleasant with the Bromley player seeming to blast the ball straight at him – not where you would expect to place a free kick.’

McDonald will now be hoping his side can build on last week’s and take confidence into this week’s home double-header against Wrexham (Sat) and Torquay United (Tue).

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan has joined Worcester City on a deal until the end of the season. Vaughan had played a one-off game for Bromsgrove Sporting last weekend, saving a penalty in their 2-0 victory over Buckland Athletic in a FA Vase quarter-final.

The 35-year-old now re-joins his former employers having seen limited game time in recent months due to injury and the form of both Nathan Baxter and Danny Lewis.
