Solihull Moors have completed the signing of forward Shomari Barnwell ahead of the 2017/18 season.

The 21-year-old joins the Moors after being released by Dagenham & Redbridge last month.

Barnwell has spent the majority of his career playing for clubs around the London area in the lower reaches of non-league football, proving to be quite a prolific goalscorer at those levels.

He started last season playing for Isthmian League side Bowers & Pitsea and it was there that his performances attracted the attention of Football League side Cambridge United, who took Barnwell on a week-long trial.

Barnwell then attracted the attention of Dagenham & Redbridge, who signed the forward last October.

After making his debut for the Daggers just two days later in their National League draw at home to Macclesfield Town, the young striker was loaned out to National League South side Bishops Stortford.

After a productive loan spell with the Blues, he was then loaned out again, this time to Hastings United, where he scored five goals in 10 games for the U’s.

At the end of the season Barnwell was released by Dagenham and he has now become Liam McDonald’s fifth summer signing, after Chris Lait, Luke Benbow, Paul Green and Kalern Thomas all joined the Moors last week.

Speaking on his new signing, McDonald told the club’s official website of his delight at being able to bring the powerful forward to the club.

‘Shomari is a big, strong and quick forward who will add something different to our squad and complement the exciting strikers we already have.

‘He’s attracted a lot of interest and we’re delighted he’s chosen Solihull to be his home next season. He’s scored goals at lower levels and had a successful loan in the Vanarama National League South last season – now he’s ready to take that on to the next level.’
