Solihull Moors have confirmed that goalkeeping coach Darren Acton has left the club after six years in the role.

The 45-year-old has made the decision to depart due to work commitments not allowing him to continue in the role, as the club make the move to becoming a full-time professional club.

Acton had this to say on his departure:

“I feel that with the club going towards full time and with my work commitments not allowing me to do that, it’s time for me to take up a new challenge.

“I’ve had a fantastic time at the club and would like to wish everyone connected all the very best for the future.”

Acton took up the role as goalkeeping coach in 2012, having been offered the opportunity by then-manager Marcus Bignot.

The former Nuneaton Town goalkeeper then continued on with the Moors after Bignot’s departure in 2016, working under Liam McDonald, Richard Money and current-boss Mark Yates.

Acton has also been registered as a player throughout his time with the club, making appearances in the Birmingham Senior Cup and also occasionally taking a place on the bench for National League and FA Cup fixtures.

Solihull Moors’ Sporting Director Mark Fogarty also commented on Acton’s departure: “I would like to wish Darren all the very best for the future. He has been a fantastic Coach whilst at the club and has seen our goalkeepers through some incredible times.

“Darren is always extremely popular with players, staff and fans alike and, more than anything, is a very capable and qualified goalkeeping coach.

“I am sure he will continue to be as successful wherever he works in the future and he will always be welcome at our football club.”
