Solihull Moors have strengthened their off-field staff with the additions of Steve Hensel and Michael Barrett to the sports injury department with immediate effect.

Steve comes in as ‘Performance Director’, a role he performed last year with the academy, where he will be responsible for providing a vital link between coaches, therapists and fitness staff to make sure players are kept in the best possible condition. With licenses in physiotherapy, coaching and fitness training he has a unique background to combine these 3 important fields. While working with the academy last year Steve took on the role of Under 19’s coach, helping them to a successful end of season, while assisting director of sport Mark Fogarty and head of coaching Sam Manoochehri with the successful academy team that won the County F.A. Youth Cup and won promotion from Midland Football League division 3 last season.

‘I enjoyed performing this role last season and look forward to implementing some new ideas into the program for both the first team and the academy, and I’m particularly excited about the strengthened link this creates between the 1st team and the academy, with the ability to share resources and man power to compete more effectively with other full time programs! I’m really looking forward to working with Michael Barrett who impressed me when I saw him working for Tamworth last season and I was pleased he applied for the role!’

Michael Barrett joins as ‘First Team Therapist’ where he will be keeping players fit and helping them to return to action asap. He previously worked at Tamworth F.C. on the academy while also gaining experience with the 1st team and is also a member of the Sports Therapy team with Coventry City Academy.

‘I feel that working with Solihull Moors achieves my ambition to be a lead therapist in football and I’m excited to work at a club with a great set up as well as being local to me! The lads and staff have been great and I already feel part of the team after 1 week. I’m looking forward to the challenges the team throws at me and am excited to learn more about the players and incorporate new ideas to keep them fit and at a high level all season!’

Michael graduated as a ‘Sports Therapist’ and then went on to complete a Masters in ‘Strength and Conditioning’, all with Coventry University, so he can not only treat injured players but also play a leading role in getting them back fitter and stronger than ever!

This role comes as part of a groundbreaking relationship with Coventry University that allows us to work with students from the University that will come in to work on our academy- allowing all players across the club even more access to treatment, rehab and fitness training than ever before!
