Solihull Moors boss Liam McDonald has admitted that he was always confident his side could make the comeback against Braintree Town and believes self-belief and team spirit were key to overcoming the Moors’ poor start to the game.

Solihull came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 against the Iron on Saturday, with goals from Simeon Maye, Oladapo Afolayan and George Carline salvaging a point for the Moors.

McDonald knew his side were below-par in the first-half, but the Moors boss didn’t feel the need to dress down his players at half-time but instead instil the belief that they can come back to get something from the game.

‘As bad as we were in the first half, we were fantastic in the second half,’ McDonald told the Birmingham Mail.

‘At half-time, it would have been easy to go mad because it was that bad. The way we conceded the goals from set-pieces was most unlike us. It was a catalogue of errors.

‘But even at 3-0 I felt we would get back into the game. It was a case of giving the players the belief. The team spirit got us through.’

In the end, the Moors boss felt the point won from the game was good one.

‘In the end it was a good point. One supporter said to me afterwards it feels like a victory and we could have won it at the end. But points are precious in this league.’

Solihull Moors now sit in 15th place in the National League, seven points above the drop zone. Next up is a key fixture, with the Moors travelling to face second-from-bottom North Ferriby United.
